At Duy Tan Primary School, books moved beyond the traditional library and became an open, colorful, and approachable experience.
Bringing the value of reading closer to students
The Duy Tan reading day began with a lively, accessible conversation about the role of books, effective reading, and how each child can choose material that reflects their own interests.
Questions, encouraging gifts, and spontaneous student responses allowed the message of reading culture to feel natural. Books were presented not as another assignment, but as doors students could choose to open for themselves.

A library without familiar boundaries
The program’s defining feature was its open library, where students could sit in small groups, browse, exchange ideas, and return to the pages that held their attention. Simple tables, stools, and colorful books created an approachable reading environment.
Reading took many forms: one student concentrating quietly, another pointing out a surprising detail, and a group discussing an illustration together. This variety allowed books to become a shared language of connection.

“When books are within reach, a child’s curiosity naturally finds its voice.”

Preserving the feeling that reading can be joyful
One event cannot build a habit in a day, but it can create a powerful first memory. From that memory, students may feel more willing to seek out books, ask about them, and share what they discover.
Famaca thanks the school leadership and teachers of Duy Tan Primary School for creating a space where students could approach knowledge freely and at their own pace.
